Emma Tonkin Emma is a director, performer, playwright, designer, and stage manager. Graduating from the Queensland University of Technology with a BA (Drama) in 1997, Emma started working regionally for four and a half years in community theatre with the Redcliffe Theatre Group - Youth Theatre Workshop. She was the co-coordinator and artistic director, directing many of the youth productions and co-founded and directed two semi-professional productions for Redcliffe Theatre Independent Productions; including: A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Noises Off. Recently she directed a short one-act play for UQ’s student theatre, Underground, for the Bugfest Festival. For this, Emma was awarded best director and best production.
Emma returned to acting in 2001 and began working with the Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble. She resides here as one of the founding committee members and is part of the training ensemble. She has performed in their first main house production: As You Like It and their rehearsed readings, the most recent being The Winter’s Tale.
Emma is also a professional photographer. She has worked as a photographer since 1997 specialising in theatre, personal portfolios, documentation and special occasions. She has worked with:
IQ Queensland Government magazine La Boite Frank Theatre Grin and Tonic New Farm Nash Theatre Louis Nowra’s film project The Storyteller Sandgate Theatre and various actors and productions around Brisbane
